ISOP Book Week centres on “Pafos2017”

This year, our annual Book Week was connected to Paphos being the Cultural Capital of Europe. Therefore, the Primary School focused on Non-Fiction writing, with each class from Kindergarten to Year 6 concentrating on a specific venue in Paphos.

Kindergarten worked on the theme of the Paphos Castle. Not only did they make their own replica, but the children learnt about princesses and princes and even dressed up as kings, queens and knights.

Reception read “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch”. Alongside this, they had a picnic outdoors, made their own lighthouses and created some superb artwork, which can be seen on the doors of their classrooms.

Year 1 focused on Aphrodite’s Rock. They wrote stories and created some great posters.

Year 2 made their own story books and information posters. The well-known characters from the “Oxford Reading Tree” scheme (Kipper, Biff, Chip and Floppy) travelled back in time to the Tombs of the Kings.

Year 3 learnt a lot about the Roman Mosaics of Kato Paphos and the children worked in teams to create an informative poster about the area.

Year 4 centred their learning on Coral Bay and used their persuasive writing skills to create posters. They even collected sand from the popular beach and added these onto their displays!

Year 5 enjoyed learning about the Akamas peninsula, in particular about the turtles there. They made leaflets to persuade people to visit and protect the area.

Finally, Year 6 created excellent leaflets about Agios Neophytos Monastery. The work that they created is truly outstanding!

In addition to all of the above, Mrs Creedy came to the library to have “Mother Goose Story time” with our Kindergarten and Key Stage 1 pupils. The children listened with excitement, as she brought the stories to life.

We are all very proud of the children’s achievements and encourage you to enjoy the display of work in the Entrance Hall of the school.
