The International School of Paphos
The International School of Paphos (ISOP)
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
HISTORY
The International School of Paphos was founded in 1987 as a co-educational Day and Boarding School. Its name reflects one of the cornerstones of its curriculum, to prepare tomorrow’s international citizens.
From the outset, the School has followed the English curriculum and worked with globally recognised examination boards. However, it has always been firmly rooted in Greek culture and educational values.
The School was established to meet the educational needs of both local and repatriated Cypriots, as well as the needs of the international community in Paphos.
With the changes in population dynamics, the services provided by the boarding department were suspended. The School is now a flourishing day school with brand new facilities on the outskirts of town.
RELIGION AND CULTURE
All religious denominations are deemed worthy of respect and all viewpoints are acknowledged. Nonetheless, the School is located within a Christian community; and the Greek language, traditions and Orthodox faith are an integral part of the school’s ethos. The School has an international intake of students whose religion and ethnic background are respected.
THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND CULTURE
The School is registered with the Ministry of Education and Culture which has the right to inspect it. Every year the School submits its rules and regulations, its curricula as well as a list of all of its staff for approval.
The Ministry of Education and Culture has classified all the registered schools in recent years according to the curriculum they offer. The Secondary Department of the International School of Paphos has been classified as ‘similar’ to Greek schools. The School awards a School Leaving Certificate (Apolyterion).
It is important to note that only pupils graduating from registered schools which have been classified as identical or similar to Greek State Schools, have the right to apply to the University of Cyprus and Greek universities.
AFFILIATIONS
The school has strong links with the British Council as well as three of the most prestigious and well-known Examination Boards in England: Edexcel, CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) and AQA.
The school is also the only registered centre and the first school in Cyprus to offer the Ellinomatheia Examinations. These examinations have been researched and set up by a group of eminent academics at the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
